Have you ever tried archery? It's fun, but you have to be careful. Archery is dangerous because the arrows are pointy and can hurt you. Archery teaches you about speed and agility.
I like to go with my dad to an indoor range in Patchogue. When my dad and I got to the target area, I saw that targets were lined up one after another. My dad had done archery for years, but it was my first time.
It took a little bit of practice, but then I got the hang of pulling the string back and then letting go. The first time I shot an arrow, it hit the target! I thought this was going to be easy, but then my next shot fell short by about five feet. One time, I almost got a bull's-eye. After we were done, my dad let me take home my target. This was one of the best times in my life.
Since then, I have gone a few times, and this Christmas I was surprised to get my very own bow and arrow set! I couldn't wait to get back to the range to practice again.
Archery is a great sport to learn. It is different from baseball or other sports, but you can have a fun day with your dad and shoot the targets. It helps build arm strength and hand-eye coordination.
Archery even helps my concentration. As you get better, you learn to hold the bow a little more steady. You will also find out there are many different types of bows and arrows to choose from.
You should give it a try. We like to go to Smith Point Archery, 215 E. Main St., Patchogue. Find it online at
