Since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in late September, along with other natural disasters, many people have needed help meeting very important basic needs such as food, water, and shelter are scarce there.

My school helped Puerto Rico this year. My school adopted another school called Academia Maria Reina in San Juan to support them and help them with what they’re going through. We organized a fundraiser along with other schools such as St. Isidore’s, Our Lady of Mercy, St. Catherine’s, Trinity Regional and The Children’s School. Many school families and many parish friends also did what they could to help the people of Puerto Rico.

At our school, everything was organized by our second-grade teacher, Ms. Teresa Torres. Our fundraiser was a school dance-a-thon. In total, we raised $6,000 at the dance-a-thon, but with the school’s help and the sponsors in total, we raised $12,000. At the fundraiser, we had food, raffles and drinks. The DJ was great, and everyone had lots of fun. When something happens, Our Lady of the Hamptons will always be there to help.
