It’s fun living on a small island and knowing everyone

Shelter Island is a very cool and a very fun place. There are about 2,500 people on Shelter Island. Does that seem like a lot to you? Probably not. Since there’s not a lot of people on Shelter Island, we know almost everyone.

I surveyed the kids at my school to see if it is a positive or a negative thing that we know a lot of people on Shelter Island. I got more results for positive than negative.

Eight people chose negative, which means that they think it’s a bad thing that everyone knows everyone. There were only two good reasons given. The first one is you can get robbed because people know where you live. The last one is, people might make fun of you because they know so much about you.

There were 32 out of 40 people that thought it was a positive thing. The reasons they gave for why it’s positive is that you never have to feel worried about meeting new people on the island, and if you are lost you always have someone to call. If you’re in an emergency, you can ask someone to help you and trust that they will. Your parents can feel safe about wherever you go because they don’t have to worry about you being at a stranger’s house or getting into trouble with strangers. Here on Shelter Island, everybody is there for you.
