Kidsday: A Pantry for Our Pals

The Duffield community we live in is so generous. We have been collecting food for a project called "A Pantry for Our Pals." This project's goal is to help families in the community we live in. We accept donations of nonperishable food and household items throughout the year. Items that are high in nutrition and long on shelf life are most appreciated. Thanks to our school nurse, Mrs. Jo-Ann Walters, hundreds of pounds of food were collected and donated to families in our school. Not only is Duffield a great place to learn, we all care for and take care of each other as well.

Brightening a hospital stay

Did you ever walk into a hospital and see blank ceiling tile? At Duffield we changed that for some hospitals to make it more exciting.

Each class at Duffield painted a ceiling tile and we donated them to several area hospitals, including Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.

Our class painted a beautiful, colorful hot air balloon and a Mickey and Minnie Mouse scene.

Other tiles painted by other grades and classes include scenes from "The Lion King," "Finding Nemo" and "Hello, Kitty."

Our school wants to give back to the community. Our goal is to brighten someone's day and bring smiles to people's faces while they are going through a difficult time.

This was schoolwide initiative.

Book review: 'Snow White'

I am reading "Snow White," by the Brothers Grimm, illustrated by Camille Rose Garcia (Harper Design).

I think everybody knows the Snow White story. Well, I am reading it in a new version. It is more of a picture book, but it still has words in it. The appropriate age to enjoy it is around 4.

It is an amazing book to read. When you start it, you will just want to keep reading it.

The book is super, fun and awesome. You will just love it. It is the best book I ever read.

RATING: 5 of 5
