Kidsday: Seven effective habits

The Sachem School District has taken pride in creating leaders, and we are trying to do this by following the "7 Habits."

These are a way of encouraging students and faculty to gather the life skills and characteristics to thrive.

It was created by Stephen R. Covey, who wrote the best-selling book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." The faculty hopes that the habits will help all of us to develop the life skills to succeed in this century, and to decrease discipline

concerns.

The Seven Habits are:

1. Be proactive: Take charge of yourself and your actions; think before you react.

2. Begin with the end in mind: Make a plan.

3. Put first things first: Work first, and then play.

4. Think win-win: Everyone can win.

5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood: Listen, and then talk.

6. Synergize: Together is better

7. Sharpen the saw: Balance out your schedule. There is time for work and play.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (Konami) is basically a game where you and up to three of your friends join into being the best soccer players. With easy-to-operate controls and every team there is, Pes 2012 is a really fun game to play. The touch screen makes it so easy to control the action. And, believe it or not, the referees in Pes 2012 are extremely accurate. They never miss a call. In this game, even one bad slide tackle can determine your fate. You either get a yellow card or penalty or you get a red card and get thrown out of the match. Pes 2012 has many different game modes for new or experienced players. They have many different tournaments like the American Cup and the International Cup. They have other teams like Barcelona or Arsenal. So overall, the game is pretty good. I woud say it is a must-buy game.

Looking for a costume idea?

Kidsday reporters Dario Sammartino and Ashlee Fazin have an easy costume that is worthy of a lot of laughs. They decided to dress as "nerds." Find an old pair of eyeglass frames, put a little masking tape on the nose bridge, borrow some suspenders from mom or dad and then pick out some odd, out-of-date clothing to wear. It's that simple!
