We met Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, all members of the group Little Mix, when they were in Manhattan recently. At the end of our interview, we even got to sing with them!

Tell us what makes your new album, “Glory Days,” so special.

Jade: Lots of things. I think that we worked so hard on it. And I think because we wrote about a lot of personal things . . . about boys and love. It really means a lot to us. It is our favorite album so far and we think the fans will love it.

How did your band form and did any of you know one another before?

Perrie: We got formed on “The X Factor,” back in the U.K. We never met each other before, which makes it quite interesting. But we have just become best friends straightaway.

Who was your favorite band when you were younger?

Jesy: We like the Backstreet Boys.

Perrie: Mine would be Journey, but I am guessing no one knows who that is here!

How old were you when you started dancing and singing?

Jesy: We all did it when we were very young, but we are very lucky that we get to do it as a group together now.

How did they do the special effects for the video “Black Magic”?

Leigh-Anne: Well, if we told you, it would be telling, but it was actual magic. Sorry! We can’t disclose.

Peri: It is from the Power of Four . . . it is a secret!

Do you write your music alone or together?

Jade: We usually write our music together. We always work as four. And we are very encouraging of each other. We always want to make sure that we all stand out and that we all sing the best that we can. We think that is the best way.

Do you ever forget words to your own songs onstage?

All: Yes!

Leigh-Anne: Sometimes we are onstage but then we go into another place because we are not focusing and all of a sudden we forget what we are doing or where we are and we then forget the words.

Jesy: Or we will be really nervous at a show and we will have a mind block.

Perrie: Sometimes it gets so bad we even forget to sing.

How long did it take before you made it big in the United States?

Jade: I think we have a way to go. We do have a really big fan base over here, which is lovely, and they always come out to support us. Hopefully, next year, when we go on tour with Ariana Grande, we can gain even more fans and then become even bigger. That would be nice.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Leigh-Anne: Ten years is a long time, but I would love to see us still together as Little Mix. That would be lovely. We always said that we wouldn’t stop because we don’t get sick of each other.

Perrie: I think we will be friends forever.

Who inspired you to become a band?

Jesy: Definitely the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, which Beyoncé used to be in. Yeah, lots of girl groups really.

What do you like more: performing or making music videos?

All: Performing!

Jade: Music videos are not as glamorous as they seem. They are very tiring.

Leigh-Anne: Hard work!

Who chooses the outfits for your performances?

Perrie: We do and we do have incredible stylists, Zach and Jamie. They are amazing at getting our outfits and our individual styles and getting us all color-coordinated for our performances.

What do you like to do together when you are not performing?

Jade: Funny you should say this. After we are done with our work, we are all going over to the spa together and have massages because we worked really hard and we deserve it! We like to chill together, we like to watch movies together.

Perrie: We like to eat lots of food and lots of sweets.

Do you have any habits or rituals before you go onstage?

Leigh-Anne: We do this thing where we all put our hands in and we go: When all is lost and love is tragic, cast a spell it’s all black magic.

Perrie: Now we are going to have to think of a new one because that is our old one.

What do you want the message of your songs to be?

Jade: I think we want our songs to empower people, make them feel confident about themselves. If anyone is feeling down or upset, we want our music to make them happy.

If you could perform in concert with anyone, who would it be?

Perrie: Beyoncé. Beyoncé is the queen!

What song is inspired by your life?

Jesy: I would say “Wings.” It was one of the first songs we wrote together. It is just about not letting anyone bring you down. Having confidence and believing in yourself.
