In 2012, singer MarissaAnn made it onto the TV show “The Voice.” MarissaAnn is from Ronkonkoma and went to our school when she was a kid. She came back and visited our classroom to talk about her time on the show and all the good things she has been doing since then. But she did more than that. She also sang for us!

How many times did you audition?

Had to audition three times before I was accepted onto live auditions of “The Voice.”

What was your experience like on “The Voice”?

It was an out-of-body experience. I was there but so excited and nervous, I was just going through the motions! It was amazing. I was in shock. I met a lot of people who inspired me to continue and find a path to get . . . [my] music out there.

How old were you when you auditioned for “The Voice”?

In 2012, I was 15 years old when I made it onto “The Voice.” I was picked to be on Christina Aguilera’s team and then stolen by Blake [Shelton].

Who inspired you to begin singing?

I started at 6 years old in kindergarten. My music teacher wrote a note home to my parents saying I had a voice of an angel and should pursue singing. My mom started crying . . . and then they began looking for vocal coaches and that’s how it started.

Who are your favorite singers?

I listen to Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears.

What do you do in your spare time?

I write my own music and produce it. I will be releasing some music soon. I am going to school part time. I am trying a little bit of everything. I do a lot with social media and I just started getting into acting. I am being coached and going on auditions. It is a full-time job! I am on Instagram and I always answer everyone.

Do you take voice lessons, and do you play any instruments?

Yes, I play the piano and guitar.

What advice do you have for others??

Block out negative people and what they say to bring you down. Ignore that and do what you love, work hard at what you love and do what makes you happy.

Do you have videos on YouTube?

Yes on YouTube channel MarissaAnn01.

Where have you performed?

Madison Square Garden and I sang the national anthem at the Apollo Theater and for different charity events.

Will you go back to “The Voice”?

Not right now. I am trying to grow as an artist and not sing other people’s songs.
