We recently interviewed the NBA’s 2016 Rookie of the Year, first pick of the 2015 NBA draft and Pokémon Go player, Karl-Anthony Towns. He plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. We met him at Gold Coast Sports Academy in New Hyde Park.

This monster of a man grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey, always looking up to his dad, even keeping his jersey number 32 to honor him.

Besides being a golfing king and piano player, Towns told us he wouldn’t trade a single player on his team for anyone in the league. As selfless as selfless can be, after signing his contract, he used the money to thank his parents by paying off the mortgage to their house. He spends a lot of his free time with many camps. We also found out that he has unique pregame rituals such as two massages before his game and enjoying a bowl of chicken noodle soup! We think he is the future face of the NBA and we are rooting for him!

He is not that much older than us, but we were still surprised when he told us, “I love watching TV shows, and I am still watching Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney channels.”

We were curious how his basketball career got started. Karl-Anthony told us, “As soon as I could pick up a basketball or any sort of sports ball whether it would be Fisher-Price size or regulation I was playing. My dad was a high school coach so I always use to go with my dad. I always wanted to be with pop. We were always shooting basketballs.”

Since he is from New Jersey, we wanted to know what his favorite basketball team was growing up. He said, “The New York Knicks. I’ve always been a Knicks fan and that was the only team that gave my dad a chance in the NBA and I still respect them for that.”

We had such a great time with Karl-Anthony and we also liked seeing all the kids at the Oasis Camp and Gold Coast Sports Academy. We think you should consider this camp in the future. Check out their website:
