Last year my soccer team and I participated in Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an organization that has fundraisers to help people who are ill with cancer. My team raised more than $1,500 to help fight cancer. To fundraise, we sold necklaces that we made from string with a purple pearl in the middle. We also sold purple flannel pants that my friend Stephanie’s mother made.

On Saturdays and Sundays while soccer games were going on, my team and I sold the necklaces. People all over the field were so thrilled that we showed them this great idea. We sold more than 300 necklaces.

On May 29, 2015, we walked the track. The rules say one member from each team has to stay on the track at all times. We took turns rotating who sold pants and necklaces and who walked the track. This year we didn’t sleep over, but we stayed until midnight. We had a lot of fun. It was a great experience and we are doing it this year, too.

Do you want to know how you can get involved? Your town can contact Relay for Life if they don’t already come to your high school!
