We had the most extraordinary day last week. You want to know why? That’s easy. Representatives from Nintendo came by our school to introduce us to the new Nintendo 3DS XL game system and also have us play a lot of their latest games.

But it all started with PJ Sadler and Joel Taveras, the Nintendo representatives, telling us some of the history of Nintendo. Have you ever wondered how Nintendo began? Our fifth-grade class got the opportunity to find out. It all started in 1889 all the way over in Japan. You probably wouldn’t believe this but they didn’t start with games. They started with playing cards. Through the years, they owned hotels and taxis, and even created board games.

Now, in 2016, we were lucky to test out games on the new Nintendo 3DS XL. There’s even a switch to make the games go from 2D to 3D. They also just made a new galaxy design that is awesome.

Let’s get into the games. They let us try five new games. We played Pokémon Sun and Moon, Animal Crossing, Fashion Forward, Disney Magical World 2 and Mario Party Star Rush. They were super fun, exciting and interesting. The Nintendo team was even nice enough to bring us shirts, pins and plush toys. But there was a catch…you needed to be able to answer some Nintendo trivia! And that meant we had to pay attention to the first part of their presentation. Because we all love Nintendo so much, that was easy!

Nintendo has existed for a long time, but did you know that Nintendo means, “Leave Luck to Heaven,” because they doubted the company when it first began. Thank you, Nintendo!
