Our diverse and wonderful country

The United States is a country of immigrants. Everyone who lives here came from somewhere else seeking a better life or freedom from oppression. After the events on Sept. 11, 2001, people began limiting that freedom, more specifically of those from the Middle East. Recently, people running for president have wanted Syrian refugees who are running for their lives from their war-ravaged country to be prevented from coming into the United States, mostly because of the threat of ISIS.

My community is diverse. We have Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and a lot more. To celebrate diversity, every year we have an interfaith service to point out the similarities instead of the differences. However, I see sometimes people look at those from other cultures differently. Muslims are especially treated differently because of recent events. Diversity is what makes America great. We learn from other cultures and make ourselves better people.
