At our school, three times a week, we go to morning activities. The activities we go to aren’t for everyone, but there are other activities you can go to.
On Mondays, we go to Math Olympiads at 8 a.m. Here we do really hard math problems, but it’s really fun. When time’s up, our math teacher goes over it with us. When she finishes checking it, we usually do a fun work sheet or play a game like Blokus, Q-Bitz or Qwirkle until 9:15 a.m., when we have to go to our classroom for the school day. We think this program makes us more intelligent and prepares us for the future.
On Wednesdays, all of the fourth-grade band has to go to practice. We both play the clarinet, so we go together every Wednesday. At band practice, the first thing we usually do is practice the simple things, so we can warm up. Once we finish exercises from our music book, we get to songs that are a little more challenging. We have a lot of fun playing our instruments. Band practice is supposed to get us ready for the concert at the end of the school year.
On Fridays, we go to chorus. It’s optional, so you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. At chorus, we sing songs. We sing “Mommy Made Me Mash My M&M’s” eight times, to different scales to warm up. We sing the songs “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “This Train Is Bound for Glory” and “Rockin’ Robin” for fun. We also warm up to an octave, an eight-note scale. For the concert, which is the same day as our band concert, we’re going to sing “Let Freedom Ring” and “It’s In My Desk.” We both really enjoy going to school early for these fun activities.
