Homes for Heroes organization is for men and women who have come back from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These soldiers are often badly injured. The organization offers discounts to veterans to help them with homes that accommodate their injuries.
At our school we will hold a walkathon on June 10. Last year we raised about $4,000 for Heroes. But our work doesn't just end with the walkathon. We also talk about Heroes during our physical education time and we send letters to families that are affected. On the day we have our walk, the students who participate are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and staff members wear Homes for Heroes T-shirts.
Mary Jane Havrylkoff, our computer teacher, created a mock check. We filled it out and presented it to the Homes for Heroes representatives at our outdoor assembly last year and we hope to do that again this year.
