Raising money to build a well in El Salvador

I raised money to help build wells in El Salvador. It all started one day when I heard my mom talking on the phone. She was talking about a party. She also said it was to raise money to build a well in El Salvador.

Things have gotten very difficult for people who live in El Salvador. It’s not easy. You just can’t turn on the water faucet at home, so many people have to walk to a communal source for water. They then have to fill their jugs, and carry them home. When there is water due to seasonal flooding, all this water can contaminate many of the area’s hand-dug wells, exposing people to illnesses.

I got excited because I was going to help make things happen. Our family goal was to reach $2,500. On the day of the party, we went to the place to get everything ready. We did the food, we also had a DJ to play music. When the party started we all had to help. Some people sold drinks and food, others checked the checklist. My job was to go with my sister to sell the tickets. We had to go around the room and explain to people what was being raffled, and how much the raffle tickets cost. We sold more than 125 tickets and each cost $2. We raised a good amount of money at the party. It was a good experience because I got the chance to help poor people who don’t have a lot of water. We didn’t quite reach our money goal, but we came close.
