The MacArthur High School wrestling team held a fundraiser in January for the John Theissen Children’s Foundation. They made $1750. Five hundred students, parents, and faculty attended this amazing fundraiser. The principals and teachers had a sumo fight. A MacArthur graduate, and current UFC fighter Gian Villante, was the guest referee. After the sumo matches were done, John Theissen addressed the crowd and expressed his gratitude. The MacArthur wrestling seniors were then honored for their years of hard work and dedication by Coach Rob Paletta and Coach Tom Bobal. Coach Michael Marrero, creator of the event, said “I am happy to see so many people coming out for such a good cause. I think a lot of people benefited from this event and we hope that the senior night sumo showdown will now be an annual event that will continue to benefit the John Theissen Children’s Foundation. This was a good day for our community.”
