Running track is challenging, but I love it

I love track. It is a big part of my life. I am a part of the St. Lawrence the Martyr CYO track team in Sayville. I run the 100-meter dash and the relay.

I go to track meets almost every Saturday or Sunday. I have to be prepared to spend the day at a meet because there are so many events. We practice Monday and Thursday.

When practicing relays, we use partners. You start with a partner and you stand 100 meters behind them. Then you run up to them, but don’t go too close to their back. You say “Go” when you think that you are close enough, then you say, “Reach,” and then you give the baton to the next person. Then they run and do the same thing for the next person.

Sometimes we have to do serious workouts like running, then pushups, running, then situps, running, then jumping jacks, running, and then squat jumps. Sometimes the coaches tell you to run a 100-meter or a 200-meter or even a 400-meter. They also choose which group you run in at the track meets.

My first season I got a third-place ribbon and a participation medal, three silver medals and a trophy.
