Triathlons for kids: How to train, where they’re run

Triathlons are a great activity in the summer for adults and even young kids. You might want to try a triathlon if you want to have a fun time with your friends or your family.

A triathlon for a kid will most likely include: a 200-yard swim, a 3-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run. In order to compete in a triathlon, you will need a swim cap, a bathing suit, a bike, running shoes and a water bottle.

The last thing you need is to train. In the summer before I did my triathlon, I started training a couple months earlier with one of my friends, Matt. I had my own training route. I first swam 15 laps in the pool, then I did a 3-mile bike ride, and lastly I would do a 3-mile run. I did this about five days a week for eight weeks.

After all this training I competed in the Oyster Bay Triathlon. There are many upcoming triathlons:

n West Point TOUGHKids Triathlon (West Point), Aug. 13

n TOBAY Junior Triathlon (Oyster Bay), Aug. 27

n Treasure Island Kids Triathlon (Point Pleasant, New Jersey), Oct. 2
