There are a lot of amazing places to visit in New York City, but one of my favorites is the Brooklyn Bridge. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is awesome. I walked the bridge on a Friday in the fall of 2016 after a long day of walking around the city with my godfather, Jay Yamamoto, and my godmother, Anna Sideridis. The bridge was a good exercise for us.
We started our day taking a taxi (they live in Brooklyn). When we were in the city we went to Eataly (a very cool restaurant) and also saw Alexander Hamilton’s grave. Both were cool, but when we were walking on the bridge, I realized that was my favorite.
As I was walking the bridge with my godparents, I noticed that I was passing what seemed like hundreds or even thousands of locks. Then I saw a lot of signs saying: NO LOCKS. I asked my godparents what the locks meant. They said that they were “love locks.” People who love each other lock one onto a bar or something else on the bridge, and together they throw the keys in the water, symbolizing their love. People actually do this all over the world. The problem is that it is illegal now to do this, because the locks are heavy and can cause problems with the bridge.
If you’re spending the day in the city, I highly recommend walking the bridge. The views from the bridge of Manhattan and Brooklyn are amazing.
