Now is your chance to get in the game — or at least, a character in the game.

The Long Island Nets basketball team, the minor league affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, which plays at Nassau Coliseum, needs a mascot and wants help from fans. A contest is being held to design the Nets’ first mascot that reflects the team’s stated family values of “loyalty, aspiration and legacy.”

“We want our mascot to embody the essence of Long Island as well as the lineage of the Nets,” says Alton Byrd, the team’s vice president of business operations.

The design must include the Long Island Nets logo, the team’s colors (red, white, blue), plus line up with the team’s brand and be able to translate into a costume.

Winner(s) will receive a trip to the 2019 NBA G League Showcase, which includes tickets, airfare and hotel for two. Designs can be submitted via to: with “Long Island Nets Mascot Competition” in the subject line.

Submissions will be accepted through May 1.
