Brianna Fernandez, 16, who attends Valley Stream High School South, performed for Ezra Koenig of the band Vampire Weekend in Manhattan recently during a rehearsal for the 2015 Garden of Dreams Talent Show scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 18 at Radio City Music Hall.

"I sang my song for him and he gave me some feedback," Fernandez says. "He told me I sang really well. The only thing I have to work on is how I hold the microphone." She has to move it closer to her mouth when sheas singing at a lower volume and farther away when she is singing louder, she says.

Fernandez will be performing "Latch" by Sam Smith, the last song she sang to her dad, a 9/11 first responder, before he died of esophogeal cancer in October. She says getting tips from a professional was apretty awesome. I like his music a lot; to have the opportunity to meet with him was pretty cool.a
