An event for girls 13 and older, moms and grandmas is schedule for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26 at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack. “Beauty Is Not Just Skin Deep: Love Being You Event” is part of the center’s monthlong Women’s History Month celebration.
The day will kick off with fitness and self-defense demonstrations, neck massages and sample makeovers. Prior to lunch there’ll be a showing of the Australian documentary “Embrace,” about body image. After lunch, participants will choose from two panels — one about body image, and the other addressing violence against women. The day concludes with a showing of a second documentary, and Israeli film exploring the trauma of violence against women called “Brave Miss World.”
