Mother's Day freebies for mom on Long Island

If you're looking for a fun way to celebrate Mother's Day, we found some freebies just for mom this weekend on Long Island. Here, family-friendly venues offering special Mother's Day promotions.

Mommy Appreciation at Long Island Science Center (11 W. Main St., Riverhead) on Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Families will learn about the miracle of motherhood; moms visit for free. Price: $5.

Head to the Bookhaven Fair at Pennysaver Amphitheater at Bald Hill (55 Bicycle Path, Farmingville) on Sunday and all moms accompanied by children or grandchildren will receive free admission from noon-3 p.m. Each mom will also receive a keepsake wooden rose.

Visit Duck Walk Vineyards North (44535 Route 25, Southold) on Saturday from 1-5 p.m. for crepes from Whole Le Crepe and live music. Mom will receive a complimentary gift with a wine purchase on Saturday and Sunday.

Mother's Day Brunch at Paint a Piece Pottery (6126 Jericho Tpke., Commack) on Sunday at noon and 3 p.m. The free brunch includes bagels, salads, muffins, cookies, fruit and more. A $5 deposit and reservation are required.

Museum Honors Mom at the Long Island Museum of American Art, History & Carriages (1200 Route 25A, Stony Brook) on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. Mothers and grandmothers will receive free admission at the museum to view the Jackson Pollock's Prints exhibit and stroll the grounds. Price: $9 general admission, $7 seniors, $4 students ages 6-17.

Hit the rides at Adventureland (2245 Rte. 110, Farmingdale) on Sunday -- moms ride free. Children must be present at time of purchase. Park opens at 11:30 a.m.

Spend time with the kids at the free Mother's Day Storytime at Barnes & Noble in Manhasset, Massepequa Park, Carle Place, Lake Grove and Bay Shore on Saturday at 11 a.m., and in East Northport on Sunday at 11 a.m. "Oh, the Things My Mom Will Do," by Marianne Richmond, a story celebrating motherhood and all the touching things mom do out of love, will be read, along with other stories. Craft-making will be offered, too.

Take a stroll through Old Westbury Gardens (71 Old Westbury Rd., Old Westbury) on Sunday, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Moms will receive a free lavender plant (while supplies last). Price: $10, $8 older than 62, $5 ages 7-17; free 6 and younger, free parking.

Treat mom to a free cup of frozen yogurt, up to six ounces, at participating TCBY locations. on Sunday. Be sure to check with your local store before you go.

Visit a public garden on Friday in honor of National Public Garden Day. Many public gardens are offering free admission and other freebies (such as seeds). Some participating gardens include The Arboretum at Adelphi University in Garden City, Sachem Public Library in Holbrook, Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay, LIU-Post in Brookville, Hofstra University Arboretum in Hempstead, Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River and Bailey Arboretum in Locust Valley.

Check out the aquarium at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium (1660 Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor) on Sunday. Moms get free admission when accompanied by their children.

Moms will receive a free pot of flowers at Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market (4558 Sound Ave., Riverhead).

The Heckscher Museum of Art (2 Prime Ave., Huntington) is offering free admission for moms on Sunday. Check out the new exhibits and more than 2,000 pieces of art.
