National Adoption Day is Nov. 23, and Spence-Chapin is having an informational meeting in Hauppauge for people interested in adopting children who have already been born. Spence-Chapin is a Manhattan-based nonprofit that has been offering adoption services for more than 100 years.
During the free session, which begins at 10:30 a.m., prospective parents will learn about opportunities for adopting waiting children internationally and also for adopting special needs children domestically.
Specifically, international adoption from Colombia, South Africa and Bulgaria will be covered. Domestic adoption of at-risk children with mental health concerns and/or alcohol and drug exposure will be discussed. The program will also include information for prospective parents of African-American children.
There will be a question-and-answer opportunity.
The meeting will take place at Spence-Chapin Services, 1363 Veterans Memorial Hwy., Suite 40, Hauppauge. For more information, call 631-979-5863. Advance registration is preferred.
