Quilts telling African-American history on exhibit in Freeport

Kim Taylor, 55, of Baldwin, who is the head of the speech department at the Lexington School for the Deaf in East Elmhurst and a single mother, says she was inspired to begin quilting by the election of President Barack Obama. More than a dozen of Taylor’s creations are on exhibit at the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation’s South Ocean Gallery in Freeport through March 10. She talked about her craft and inspirations on Sunday, Feb. 3. (Credit: Marisol Diaz-Gordon)
