Target stores releasing Hatchimals Sunday

The hottest toy for the 2016 holiday season is the Hatchimal, a virtual pet that you help hatch out of its egg and then train. On Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, some Long Islanders talked about why they have given up on searching for this toy after hours spent fruitlessly waiting in line, while others showed off their Hatchimals that they are raffling or selling on auction websites.  (Credit: Newsday / Chuck Fadely; Steve Pfost)

There may be hope for frustrated parents: Starting Sunday, Target stores nationwide will receive another wave of Hatchimals, including the Target-exclusive Bearakeet.

The speckled eggs that hatch into an interactive stuffed animal will sell for the retail price of $59.99 in Target stores. According to a Target spokesperson, you'll need to be quick to snag this coveted toy, with a limit of two per customer. There will be more inventory popping up throughout the week of Dec. 11. Target also suggests checking with your local store before you go and be prepared to wait in line.

"We know that parents are looking for Hatchimals," said James Martin, senior vice president of marketing and global business unit lead robotics at Spin Master. "We don’t want anyone to be disappointed so we’re doing everything we can to get more Hatchimals to our retailers in the lead up to the holidays and beyond. We encourage parents to keep checking stores and online and check the Hatchimals website for updates."

According to a company message on, Spin Master has increased production and whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017. Kids and parents can check out for games and activities while waiting for their Hatchimal. They are also partnering with some retailers to develop pre-sale and/or rain-check programs for redemption in January.
