Turbulence, the new roller coaster at Adventureland, was unveiled this year. It not only sends riders up and down 55-foot-high hills at speeds up to 45 miles per hour, but it has their four-person cars spinning at the same time.

The Cliff Diver at Splish Splash begins with a walk up a treehouse-like set of stairs the equivalent of an eight-floor building. Then, riders lie down on a slide and straight down they go.

Pole Position Raceway in Farmingdale lets up to 10 child and adult drivers at a time compete in side-by-side racing on two separate, quarter-mile indoor tracks. The go-karts can reach speeds of 45 miles per hour as the drivers negotiate straightaways and hairpin turns.
Karts Indoor Raceway in Ronkonkoma features a 750-foot indoor track with go-karts capable of reaching 35 mph for adults or 20 mph for drivers younger than 18.

Picture dropping like a stone from the ninth floor of a building -- that's the sensation created by the Super Shot, a thrill ride found at many carnivals around Long Island.
