Weekend family fun on Long Island: 'Sesame Street Live,' fall festivals and more

Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From "Sesame Street Live" to fall festivals, crafts and more, there is plenty happening on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities during the weekend:

Greek Festival on the Harbor at North Hempstead Beach Park (West Shore Road, Port Washington). You'll find games, rides, Greek food, music, dancing and more on Friday, from 5 to 11 p.m.; Saturday. from noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m. Price: The festival is free; fees apply for rides and food.

"Sesame Street Live: Let's Dance" at Nassau Coliseum (1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale). Join all your favorite "Sesame Street" characters in this interactive, live performance. Elmo uses his imagination to "Do the Robot," Cookie teaches all "feets" to dance and Ernie shares the fun of dance with "Shake Your Head One Time" on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday, at 2 p.m. Price: $22-$58.

Nature Art Class with Kathy Clark -- Clay Pendants at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge (340 Smith Rd., Shirley). On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, families with children ages 10 and up can participate in an interactive workshop in which presenter Kathy Clark will assist with designing and creating clay pendants. Try different stamps and shapes, and finish them with paint. All materials will be provided. Price: Free; registration is required.

Prehistoric Hysteria at Caleb Smith Park and Preserve (Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown). Children ages 5 and older can learn about fossils and make a souvenir to remember their trip on Saturday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Price: $4 adults, $3 children, $8 parking fee; reservations are required.

Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration (Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage). Prize-winning vegetables, flowers and crafts displayed in the replica of 1866 Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall. Farm animals, poultry, brass band concerts, traditional music, children's games, pony rides, craft demonstrations, magic shows and more on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Price: $12 (Thur.-Sat.), $12 (Sun), $8 ages 5-12 and 60 and older.
