You’ve served your country — or perhaps your mission isn’t completed. Several restaurants, hospitality spots and businesses are honoring the service of both active members of the military and veterans in observance of Veterans Day. Here’s a list of some Long Island options to consider in 2018:
Joann Fabrics: Military and their families can choose from four free in-store classes such as basic sewing, cake decorating, knitting or crocheting on Monday, Nov. 12. Some supplies required. Register in-store (space limited) at participating locations in Commack and West Babylon (joann.com).
Bar Louie: Veterans and military personnel can score a free appetizer or flatbread (up to $15 in value) from open to close on Monday, Nov. 12 (with military ID). Locations in Massapequa and Commack (barlouie.com).
Friendly’s: From open to close on Monday, Nov. 12, all restaurants are honoring veterans and active military personal with a free breakfast item (the “Big-Two-Do Breakfast”) or lunch/dinner platter (the “All-American Burger,” served with fries); show military ID or honorable discharge card for proof of service. Red Lobster: Active duty military, reservists and veterans can grab a free appetizer or dessert Nov. 11-12 (from a select menu; valid military ID or proof of service required). Locations in Copiague, Ronkonkoma, Stony Brook, Hicksville, Carle Place and Valley Stream (redlobster.com).
Mattress Firm: Veterans, their family members and first responders receive a 20 percent discount at all stores Nov. 10-12; 18 locations in Nassau County, 22 in Suffolk (mattressfirm.com).
Denny's: Participating locations are offering service members a complimentary “Build Your Own Grand Slam” on Monday, Nov. 12 from 5 a.m.-noon with valid military ID or Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD 214). Locations in Centereach, North Babylon and Carle Place (dennys.com).
Red Roof Inn: Active military members and veterans can reserve rooms up until Dec. 31 for 20 percent off of the best available rates. No ID required but reservations must be made over the phone or in-person only. Rooms can be reserved for dates up to Feb. 28, 2019 (redroof.com).
Famous Dave’s: In honor of Veterans Day, all current and former military personnel can enjoy a free “Two-Meat Salute” dish Nov. 11-12 (excludes ribs; valid photo identification and proof of military service required). 1060 Corporate Dr., Westbury (famousdaves.com).
