At DKNY, prepster-meets-hipster

Fashion from the Fall 2011 collection of Donna

A tiny, little black shredded mini dress featured a pristine Peter Pan collar; a fuzzy angora rugby sweater bore thick stripes in lipstick (hot pink) and tangella (neon orange).  These were some of the dual looks that merged at DKNY.  None was more illustrative of the preppie but downtown vibe on this runway than the classic Houndstooth plaid navy and brown blazer graphically exaggerated and shot with sparkle.

“Show me something New York,” was the theme of the show, no surprise as everybody knows that Donna Karan garners her inspiration from the city – c’mon they don’t call it DKNY for nothing.  So, it made sense that the collection was all at once gritty, girlie, chic and fun.  A blast in fact with great outerwear including a new tailored cape, biker jackets, leather sleeves on smart coats and sweaters, and one funky cheetah print shearling to wear to Fashion Week next winter.

Amidst the city palette of black cream, navy and gray, Karan served up a healthy dose of color to perk up the winter doldrums.
