Banana Republic and Virgin America are teaming up to bring fashion to a different kind of runway . . . the airport runway, that is.
Banana Republic announced Friday that it has designed uniforms for Virgin America's 2,000 airport employees, pilots and in-flight crews.
"In creating the uniform designs for Virgin America, we wanted to respect the heritage of in-flight uniform design while injecting a modern twist that’s both functional and fashionable,” Simon Kneen, Banana Republic creative director and executive vice president, said in a statement.
The uniforms come in multiple styles including leather jackets and striped sweaters for men and pencil skirts, slim dresses, printed silk scarves and trenches for women. They will debut on Aug. 8.
All are said to incorporate classic aviation touches and Virgin America's unique style. (Haven't flown on the 5-year-old airline yet? The cabins glow with purple lighting.)
But what's in it for the passengers, besides pilot eye candy?
Banana Republic travel essentials such as aviator sunglasses, a leather tote, a messenger bag and trench coats will be available for in-flight purchase.
