Betsey Johnson's birthday was not your grandmother's 70th birthday party.
There was Cyndi Lauper rocking out on stage; there was a baby pig on the runway; there was the birthday girl doing her signature cartwheels and splits on the runway, and there was lots and lots of pink glitter.
The over-the-top designer filed for bankruptcy this year and closed her retail stores, but nothing could rain on her parade (besides pink and black confetti and the aforementioned glitter) as she showed off her Spring 2013 collection as loudly as ever.
With plenty of leopard prints, rhinestones and bright pinks, greens, blues and yellows, the collection surely did not hold back. There were colorful fur trimmed jackets and crop tops, shirts with tassels and pyramid-shaped bags, and of course there were Johnson's signature frilly dresses with their exaggerated princess skirts.
There was a gold corset with fake hair hanging from it, outfits decorated with Minnie Mouse and the Playboy Bunny, a bright red dress with a gun print and studded coats taken off to reveal itty-bitty bikinis and cutout one-piece swimsuits. Accessories were as bold as the outfits they were paired with, from flowered hats to boas made of fake money.
Johnson even unveiled a full-skirted, white wedding dress with an asymmetrical neckline for the funky bride, with pink roses sewn on the back.
Johnson ran out at the end of the lively show, dancing with Lauper to 50 Cent's “In Da Club” as models came out with balloons and “Guys love B.J.” T-shirts.
We can't wait to see how she celebrates her 80th.
