Another over-the-top, runway celebration from Betsey Johnson, arguably fashion’s most spirited designer.  This Valentine’s eve show, called, “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not,” was divided into two parts.  First up: Black wigged models in great Betsified classics with more substance than froth believe it or not.

There were tweeds – a great frock coat, leather shorts, washed gray denim pieces, lots of leopard, a sweater with a huge tiger head emblazoned on it, and another cropped one that read, “Teach me a lesson,” and was yellow lined like a ruler.  For girlie types a lavender coat lined in lace strips and flowered jump suits, All were named after hit romance songs, “Heartbreaker, Love Machine, Wild Thing,” …you get the drift.
The second portion of the show featured real gal models (and a couple of guys) wearing Betsey wigs and fashions.  Most worked in Betsey stores, including Athena Brown, who manages the store in Roosevelt Field.  One of them drew loud applause from the crowd – she was very pregnant and wore a flowered Betsey frock stretched tight across her belly.
Everybody waits for the famous Betsey cartwheel finale, and the 68-year-old designer did not disappoint.  But first she pulled crimson haired style maven Patricia Fields onto the runway for an impromptu dance.  Crazy fun!
