California, here they come. Those fresh-faced royals, Will and Kate, who at this moment are perhaps the world’s hottest celebrities, land in the States tomorrow straight off their Canadian tour.
Fashion watchers were all atwitter over the duchess of Cambridge’s fashion picks there – every detail. But on the whole, though her choices were chic, respectful and so appropriate, they were not particularly groundbreaking. But high fashion or not, truth told, she always looked fabulous.
Her royal sleekness is all about tailored, slim lines, and from a practical standpoint, re-wearing her clothes – (oh-so diplomatic in these difficult economic times) -- case in point the J Brand 811 mid-rise skinny jeans in navy luxe twill jeans, which she donned three days in a row. She even revisited the white ruffled Reiss Nannette dress that she wore for her official engagement photo that was sooo last year (in fact, it was last year).
Notable new looks included a lacy, navy Erdem frock (the knee-length Jacquenta dress, according to US Weekly magazine) and a vivid purple Issa number (the saturated color reminded of our own first lady). Both designers are among Kate’s faves.
Also a standout, a brilliant red maple leaf hat by Sylvia Fletcher at Lock and Company, a playful homage to Canada’s official symbol.
In the same vein, just a tad more fancy, Kate borrowed a maple leaf diamond brooch reportedly straight from the Queen’s sparkling stash. Will she amp up the fashion quotient when she arrives in sunny style-focused California? And will she give the royal nod to American designers? We shall see.
