Calvin Klein Fall 2014: Mo' better mohair

The inspiration: The now-infamous polar vortex must’ve been on the brain of Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa. His parade of plush wool and mohair dresses and coats is clearly designed to warm, of course, but also to comfort and soothe.

The vibe: Serene. This is, after all, a Calvin Klein show.

The lust-o-meter: The palette was fairly standard for this brand — primarily black and snow white. But it’s the creamy whites that seem the stand-outs — particularly a wispy short sleeve dress with three-quarter hem. Bright-colored pieces served as playful buttons on an overcoat and jacket. A couple of dresses also featured thick, marled wool panels in front with color blocks (some of the few pops of color for this line). They looked eclectic and sort of crafts-y. Almost.

Hmmm...: Those marled panels are certainly interesting to look at, especially in such a minimalist line as this, but we couldn’t help but wonder how that dress would feel when you … well … sat down. We worry that all the thick yarn will bunch up.

Our take: The winter white pieces seemed exceptionally pretty, though that shade is doomed on snow days like today.
