Carolina Herrera’s spring collection is for the birds. Birds who want to look sleek, ultra-fashionable and refined, that is, like petite Renee Zellweger, a longtime Herrera fan, who sat front and center.
First up in this pared-down luxe collection, clever sparrow prints adorning silky skirts, blouses and gowns in canary yellow, grass green and red. Streamlined chiffon maintained an ethereal quality without the volume. A clean jade silk dress got its wattage from panel details, a smart metallic canvas coat featured contrasting piping.
Later, Herrera taught a geometry lesson: a silk blouse featuring geometric appliqué was paired with low-slung, loose pants cuffed and belted in red and black patent leather…very sharp, with a modern art edge…did somebody say Alexander Calder?
Absent: big ball gowns – a Herrera signature. In their places, slim, fluttery numbers, a killer red silk seersucker column emblazoned with geometric black-and-white embroidery, and a quietly sizzling, greige one-shoulder delight with silver crystal beading.
Herrera’s socialite customers (all present) will be flocking to this stuff next spring.
