“Oh my God,” mouthed Mad Men star Christina Hendricks at the stunning apparitions that appeared on Carolina Herrera’s runway Monday morning at the tents. The famously curvaceous Hendricks, in a deep blue Herrera day dress, was a perfect muse for the impeccably tailored pieces – subtle, yet unabashedly feminine.
A dark gray wool dress coat hugged curves and featured an amethyst velvet belt to punctuate the waist. A black wool dress could as easily show up on the set of Hendrick’s hit show as it could at a society luncheon or cocktail party with its throwback raised sable collar, and cocoa velvet belt.
Socialites (and there were plenty on the front row) can get their groove on with a black liquid jacquard jacket that read like a biker jacket, or any one of the stunning bejeweled sweaters.
Of course Herrera’s gowns are other worldly concoctions and this season she did not disappoint. Sometimes she was light-handed with the glistening embellishment that peeped through a cowled back or on one shoulder. At other times, she paved a gown with sparkle, though these still were restrained. A turquoise and amethyst feather print embroidered gown with a rust velvet belt was pure Herrera – interesting, classy and elegant.
