Carrera launched its new Carrera 6000 line of sunglasses today on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and the first day of a two-day Solstice Sunglass Boutique celebration in the Meatpacking District—and in sweltering heat, which had everyone thinking of cool shades. Or, well…shade.
The Carrera 6000 line is an update of the classic Wayfarer shape—a little deeper and bolder in the design, in seven sleek color options, including black frames with red temples, blue temples, all black (this being New York) and a classy tortoise version. The frames cost $129, and are now available exclusively at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques (in East Hampton, Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, Roosevelt Field in Garden City, and Manhattan) and solsticesunglasses.com.
You can catch the action (and buy some shades) if you’re in the city tonight, or tomorrow—Thursday, June 21. Just look for the big white dome tent—and The Tribe, these crazy acrobat types who are experts in parkour (based on the French physical discipline parcours). Hmmm…curious? They’ll be flipping, leaping and otherwise flying through the air—with Carrera shades, of course—at various times throughout the day.
TO GET THERE: Take the LIRR to Penn Station, then take the 1-2-3 line or the A-C-E line downtown to 14th Street. Walk west to 9th Avenue, then head into the Meatpacking District—follow the cobblestones south (two blocks) to Gansevoort Plaza, where you'll see the Summer Solstice tent.
