Don’t mess with Catherine Malandrino. Her Black Label line, revealed at a presentation in a large warehouse in Chelsea on Sunday, is named “La Feline,” and is a marriage, she explains, of “virtue and vice.”
Virtue comes in many forms — a fuzzy mohair and vinyl bomber, sweet, soft and nostalgic, or perhaps the royal blue wool and patent leather trench coat with fox fur collar and purple skinny belt. Stunning.
Vice is . . . spicier — a vinyl corset, slashed net and cutouts, or an evening gown with flesh-baring crystal netting. Some of the skin-barers looked like something sexy out of a sci-fi film. One gets the sense that Malandrino perhaps has more fun designing for the “vice” side of the equation.
The wardrobe here, of course, is full-fledged luxury, thanks to detachable fur collars, embossed lambskin pants, cropped jackets with fox fur sleeves and that one, must-have coat — tomato red, with crinkly black patent lapels. Let it rain, let it snow — Malandrino’s got you covered.
