It’s been a gas watching the evolution of Christian Siriano since he won "Project Runway" several seasons back, and he’s hit the big-time of late, dressing "Mad Men’s" zaftig Christina Hendricks for the Golden Globes. But can he get past those frothy ruffled confections that have become his signature? In a word: Yes.
We loved his slim, tough leather jackets, satin frocks, neat suits and one billowy metallic ensemble inspired, he said, by “1960s European women who got dressed every day.” But it’s hard to keep his kind of exuberance in check, say his finale gown, a massive ruffled fuchsia affair with train.
His shoes for Payless were wild to be sure, some claw-footed, others ruffled -- eek, a tad scary -- though his gilded gladiator boot and shoes were downright cool.
Kristen Johnson, in the house, said of the collection, “I wish I could afford it. I loved everything. I tried to get him to let me model the last look,” (that would be the ruffled gown), but it didn’t work out.”
