When you've spent as much time on the fashion scene as Dani Stahl, your closet is bound to get a little crowded.

As style editor at large for Nylon Magazine, designer for Lia Sophia and style consultant on E!'s model search TV series "Scouted", Stahl is always on top of the latest trends and designer must-haves.

Lately, she's been shopping the sales at Manhattan stores like Bergdorf Goodman, where she told us she just scored a purple quilted moto Balenciaga jacket.

To make room for her new fashion finds, Stahl gets crafty with her old jeans. But even for an expert, this do it yourself project was a challenge.

"You think that cutting jean shorts is an easy thing; it's not. I went on all these websites, I found all these how-tos, I got a bunch of denim to test it out on, and I came up with my own solution," she said.

Stahl was at Gap's Upper East Side Manhattan location Tuesday, where she showed shoppers how to turn their unwanted denim into summer's hottest wardrobe essential using an array of studs, glitter, patches and ribbon.

Learn to make your own, using Stahl's approach in 10 easy steps, or head over to the Gap Lincoln Center store at 1988 Broadway in Manhattan on Thursday, July 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. for her second hands-on class. It's free, fun and you'll leave with a fashion editor approved addition to your closet. Just bring an old pair of jeans and RSVP at Need to re-stock on the jeans you cut? Gap 1969 denim will be 30 percent off during the event.
