Celebrating the Year of the Dog in style

So long, rooster. With the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration — on Feb. 16 — we bid farewell to the Year of the Rooster and welcome in the Year of the Dog.

The dog — one of 12 Chinese zodiac symbols — is said to endow its characteristics (like loyalty, patience, reliability) on those born in this or other dog years (including 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006).

You don’t have to be born in any of these years, however, to let your leash loose and join in the fun. Luxe labels have let the dogs out with canine-themed bracelets (Louis Vuitton), scarves (Salvatore Ferragamo) and backpacks (Gucci), all for the price of a small pedigreed pup.
Less pricey pooches, rest assured, can also be had online and in stores across Long Island. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites.
