Celebrated designer Giambattista Valli says he was inspired by “the energy and vitality of women” when designing his new capsule collection called—you might wanna inhale big here—“Giambattista Valli for Impulse Only at Macy’s,” an exclusive line of sexy party clothes that hits 225-plus Macy’s stores and tomorrow, Wednesday, October 27. And…exhale.

“This collection is a passport into my world and a chance to experience the passion and romance of my house and Paris itself,” adds Valli, who was born and raised in Rome, and served as artistic director for Emanuel Ungaro ready-to-wear before launching his own luxe line in Paris in 2005.

His mini line for Macy’s—which includes leopard-print cocktail dresses, vivid color-blocked frocks, and a long strapless dress in a photographed-roses print (plus ruffled skirts, blouses, jackets and tees)—offers a taste of his eclectic, international flair, but at much more affordable prices (most pieces fall in the $50 to $150 range). His influences range from costumes in Fellini films to Halston, Gena Rowlands to Bianca Jagger, MTV India to Kurt Cobain.

Valli is the fourth designer to create a limited-edition line for Impulse, which is Macy’s way of getting in on the designers-doing-it-cheaper craze popularized by chains like Target and H&M. (Speaking of which, look for the much-anticipated Versace for H&M mini collection to hit November 17, and Jason Wu for Target in February, 2012.)
