Some people just SHOP in Herald Square, but endurance athlete Diana Nyad is about to make us ALL look like couch potatoes when she dives in and starts SWIMMING in Herald Square—for 48 hours STRAIGHT—from Tuesday, October 8 at 8:30 am, to Thursday, October 10, all to raise money for AmeriCares and Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
To mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, mega-swimmer Nyad—fresh from her recent landmark swim from Cuba to Florida—will be swimming…and swimming…and swimming right outside Macy’s in a specially built pool, 40 yards long (and with two lanes, to give her some elbow room, presumably) . P&G brands like Tide, Duracell and Secret are underwriting this whole endeavor, so that the bulk of funds raised will go right to where it’s needed—the AmeriCares Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
You can help by DONATING HERE. Nyad could also use some words of encouragement, no doubt, so give her a shout-out using the hashtag #SwimForRelief (messages will be exhibited at the pool). Or buy Nyad’s documentary, “The Other Shore,” and a portion of proceeds benefits AmeriCares.
