Esteemed director Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” opens nationwide May 10, and the fashion world is buzzing.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s story of a man clouded in mystery and excess is perhaps the most well-known novel of its time, and figures of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan — the tale's fictional protagonists  — have long been touchstones for designers describing a 1920s-inspired collection.

And with dapper Leonardo DiCaprio as Mr. Gatsby and effortlessly elegant Carey Mulligan as Daisy, the style of the Roaring 20s is without a doubt having its moment once again.

Fitzgerald himself was a Brooks Brothers shopper, and Catherine Martin, the costume designer for the film, looked to 1920s Brooks Brothers archive pieces when designing the on-screen looks, so it's no surprise the retailer is getting in on the action.

Brooks Brothers is releasing a limited-edition menswear collection inspired by the costumes from the film, featuring elegant formalwear and casual daywear, all with the nostalgic ode to Long Island's Gold Coast in the glory days of 1920s America.

With summer weddings and Hamptons outings on the horizon, standouts include an ivory linen jacket, $698, pictured above, and an Americana straw boater hat, $198. The collection is available at Brooks Brothers stores at 150 stores worldwide including the Americana Shops in Manhasset and the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, and at

For the women, Tiffany & Co. has released a line of vintage-inspired treasures, some of which are seen in the film.

The collection includes the silver Ziegfeld Daisy locket, $600, and pieces that one can only dream about — a Diamond Flower ring with a 5.25-carat diamond is $875,000 and a 1920s-inspired bejeweled headpiece is $200,000. Select pieces are in a Gatsby-themed window display at the 5th Avenue store in Manhattan.

Online retailer Rue La La will launch a glamorous Gatsby boutique at 11 a.m. Friday,  with Art Deco-inspired clothing and accessories such as a Mark & James Deco beaded shift dress, on sale for $199.90, and Inge Christopher beaded fringe bags, on sale for $79.90.

But psst — if you want the '20s look for less, it never hurts to spend some time scouring local vintage stores and consignment shops for glitzy old time treasures.
