Less whimsy, more structure at Jason Wu’s fall collection — a studied take on the juxtaposition of roughness and opulence.
Sharply tailored looks included sleek cigarette pants with masculine touches such as ascot shirts and flannel coats, some glammed up with heavy-duty Swarovski crystal embellishment. These were balanced by loads of lace — more than 15 types — adorning blouses, anoraks and gowns— even a face mask of lace (doubt you'll find this at retail). Bolts of violet, pink and chartreuse amped up the restrained black, white and nude palette and a lovely delicate falling leaf pattern was repeated throughout. For fun: Wu’s famously fabulous ostrich feather dresses. Oh, yes, and one gold lace pailette-embroidered gown fit for a queen … or a first lady. Gorgeous.
