The New York Mets and the Council of Fashion Designers of America are launching a collection of designer duds to celebrate both of their 50th anniversaries with proceeds going to each organization’s charitable foundations.
The grouping of clever and very cool Mets' inspired T-shirts ($70), tanks ($60), track jackets ($125), hoodies ($125) and Henleys ($95) for men and women is the handiwork of CFDA designers Billy Reid, Yigal Azrouel, Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay Hahn for Loomstate and Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos for Shipley & Halmos. The products will go on sale July 24 at Citi Field and at www.edition01.com (you can view them all now and pre-order here) for a limited time period.
“We are excited to be working with The New York Mets on a CFDA member designed mini collection commemorating our 50th Anniversaries," said Steven Kolb, CFDA chief executive of CFDA. “The creativity of our designers is a fresh approach to team merchandise while supporting charitable efforts of both organizations."
At least one of the designers is particularly excited too. “I’m a huge baseball fan,” Reid said. “I help coach my son’s Little League team, and oddly enough our team’s name this year is the Mets. Any opportunity to work with baseball and supporting the CFDA really is an honor and we are proud to be part of it.”
If you attend the game on Tuesday, July 24, you might note that some of the crowd at least, is particularly fashionable. To celebrate the launch of the anniversary collection, the Mets will host the entire CFDA membership at Citi Field as the team takes on the Washington Nationals. Expect a bunch of heavy hitters on all fronts.
