Rapper turned Kardashian baby daddy Kanye West is known for his giant ego .?.?. just ask Taylor Swift.

But an interview published by The New York Times Tuesday reveals that even West has his insecurities -- and they center around his fashion choices.

Did your mind just dart to that awful leather kilt he wore at the 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief? Ours, too.

West does mention the kilt, saying that he wanted Jay-Z to tour beside him in part to have someone standing on stage reaffirming that he's cool "even with the kilt on."

But the outfits that he wore "five to seven years ago" are the ones really making him cringe -- and that's putting it lightly.

"Yeah, kill self. That’s all I have to say. Kill self," he said of his reaction to seeing the styles of his past.

"You even see the way I dress now is so super straight," he told the Times, adding that it takes him way less time to get dressed these days.

So when he forced girlfriend Kim into a wardrobe makeover on that infamous "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" episode, was he just trying to steer her away from his own mistakes?

"That was from a place of love," he says in the interview. "It’s hard when people read things in a lot of different ways. You know, the amount of backlash I got from it is when I decided to not be on the show anymore."

West also touches on being questioned about the lack of advances in his fashion career, but says he doesn't want to make luxury pieces that aren't attainable.

"I don’t believe that it’s luxury to go into a store and not be able to afford something," he says. "I believe luxury is to be able to go into a store and be able to afford something .?.?. If you don’t make Christmas presents, meaning making something that’s so emotionally connected to people, don’t talk to me."

Maybe an affordable kilt line is in the works for the 2013 holiday season? We'll have to wait and see.
