Instead of resting their feet, maybe taking a bubble bath or stocking up on power foods the night before New York Fashion Week's official start, designers, models and editors gathered at Lincoln Center to kick things off with the 2013 Style Awards.
Among the highlights were Rachel Zoe stepping out for the first time since she announced her pregnancy to accept the stylist of the year award, "I'm so emotional . . . must be the pregnancy hormones," and host Nicole Richie's frequent outfit changes.
Ariana Grande, looking glam beyond her years in a custom Kenley Collins dress, belted out "Tattooed Heart," and tennis star Maria Sharapova, who withdrew from this year's U.S. Open, was there to announce Frederic Fekkai's award for hairstylist of the year.
Zac Posen took home designer of the year, and John Varvatos menswear designer of the year. Amar'e Stoudemire of the New York Knicks presented New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, who said he's always cared about what he wears (and looked sharp in a tailored suit), with most stylish athlete of the year.
Last, but certainly not least, was Kate Upton, who practically sprinted on stage in her little black dress to grab her award for model of the year from always stunning Christie Brinkley and talk about the perks of her profession. "I'm 21 years old and I've traveled to all seven continents," she said. "And I've worn a bikini in all of them."
The Style Awards will air on CNN on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., but Friday the real games begin.
