Lacoste: Light ‘n’ Lively

Cages lined Lacoste’s runway (looking a lot like tennis ball hoppers) and models sauntered in well-constructed looks that were simultaneously substantial and airy. A polo tennis dress in pale blue featured a faux-cropped top. There was a slouchy, clay-colored robe-like coat and in the same shade, loose pants with pinstriping down the side -- lines, according to program notes (think tennis court), being the inspiration for the show.

While a classic tennis dress seemed nothing new, there were plenty of little dresses that boasted revealing mesh insets (belly buttons were on display) one in rosy pink that was just short of risqué. Speaking of which, a silken navy halter gown was side-boob city.

If we could pick one thing? Feather-light minty parkas in nylon organza – completely sheer – they looked soooo delicate, billowing and airborne, trailing the models. And, by the way, even though the collection was very snappy, there wasn't a crocodile in sight.
