Once again, Michelle Obama’s fashion pick was right on at Wednesday’s State Dinner welcoming Mexican president Felipe Calderon and first lady Margarita Zavala.

She looked smashing in a shimmery sapphire blue one-shoulder gown by American designer Peter Soronen.  The dress has a boned corset, silver belt and is dusted with lame to add sparkle.

It was sort of a goddess look, especially with Obama’s new ‘do – a partially swept up head full of soft curls.

Soronen is no stranger to Obama’s closet –-  this is the fifth dress by the designer the first lady has worn.  According to AP, the designer knew that Obama was considering the dress for the event, but only got confirmation as the photos appeared.

Soronen told AP, “I love the structured bodice that I do for her.  I put it in a lot of my dresses.  I drape, pin and stitch all that lightweight chiffon – this works well on the first lady.”

She looked great, and reportedly, the event went off with out a hitch…. or a gatecrasher.
